Benefits of Using Aluminium

Aluminium is one of the few metals that practically never runs out of raw materials, because it is naturally occurring in nature. In fact, 8% of the earth’s crust is composed of aluminium in the form of different minerals. It is also recyclable, which means it can be reused and refurbished for the same purposes over and over again. And unlike other materials, it does not lose its unique properties over time, so you are assured that your aluminium storage will stay sturdy and will stand the test of time.

Its physical, chemical, and mechanical composition is very similar to that of steel, brass, copper, zinc, lead, or titatnium. Like these metals, aluminium can be melter, cast, formed, and machined. It can also conduct electric current. It uses the same equipment and fabrication methods as for steel, which means that it is a very suitable alternative to steel.

One of the most distinct properties of aluminium is its strength. It offers high strength and durability despite being lightweight, which is why it is ideal for building ramps, gangways, ladders, storage boxes, and the like. It is a very light metal that weighs about a third of steel. Using aluminium in vehicles reduces dead weight and energy consumption, but at the same time, it is also able to increase your vehicle’s load capacity. This makes it ideal for trucks and other industrial vehicles used to transport very heavy materials on a regular basis. Its strength can also be adapted to various applications required by modifying its alloy composition to mimic that of other metals. It can withstand extra reinforcement for maximum strength, making it ideal for applications and equipment that require very strong metals.

Aluminium is also very resistant to corrosion. It naturally generates a protective oxide coating which contributes to low environmental loading. It can be improved through different types of surface treatment, including anodising, painting, or lacquering. Applications where protection and conservation are required can benefit from the use of aluminium.

At KP Fabrication & Welding, our aluminium tool boxes are designed to be watertight and airtight, which means that whatever you store inside remain safe from the elements. You also do not have to worry that the tool boxes themselves will be damaged, because they are designed to, and have been tested to withstand the harsh Australian weather conditions.

Aluminium is also an excellent heat and electricity conductor. Considering its weight, it is almost twice as good a conductor as copper. This makes aluminium one of the most commonly used material in major power transmission lines. In relation to this, aluminium is also highly reflective. It is a good reflector of light and heat, so combining these properties with its low weight, it is an ideal material for reflectors for light fittings or rescue blankets.

Its ductility is also worth mentioning, as it has a low melting point and density. When melted down, it can be processed a number of ways, allowing products of aluminium to be formed close to whatever the desired design is. In relation to its ductility, aluminium requires very little energy to melt down – only about five percent of the energy required to produce the primary metal is needed to recycle it.

Lastly, aluminium, is completely impermeable, even if it is rolled out to a thickness of only a few millimetres. It lets neither light aroma nor taste substances out. The metal itself is non-toxic, so it is ideal for packaging sensitive products such as food or pharmaceuticals.
